Learn Latin from Scratch This Summer
Our Latin for Beginners — Live Course starts in just a few weeks.
With the start of the Latin for Beginners — Summer Course 2026 now just one week away, this is a brief reminder for those who are still considering joining the new live cohort.
The course begins on June 9th, and we are now entering the final days before the first session.
If Latin has been on your list for a while — whether for academic, intellectual, or personal reasons — this is the moment when things begin to come into focus.
In what follows, I’ll walk you through how the course is structured and what you can expect from the learning experience.
A Structured Introduction to Latin
This is a complete beginner’s course in Classical Latin, designed to guide students from zero knowledge to the ability to read continuous Latin texts with confidence.
The approach is built around gradual exposure to the language in context, rather than isolated memorization. Grammar, vocabulary, and reading develop together through a single structured progression.
The core material is Familia Rōmāna, which provides a continuous narrative framework: the everyday life of a Roman family in the 2nd century AD, used as the foundation for learning Latin as a living system of meaning.

How the Course Is Organized
Each weekly session follows a consistent structure designed to build clarity, continuity, and retention:
Schola — new grammar introduced in direct relation to the text
Lēctiō — guided reading of Latin passages with detailed explanation
Exercitātiō — structured practice to reinforce understanding
Pēnsa — targeted exercises for consolidation and review
Compendium — concise synthesis of the material covered
This structure is repeated throughout the course, allowing each lesson to build naturally on the previous one.
The Learning Process
The method is based on reading and comprehension rather than translation.
Latin is introduced progressively, always in context, so that grammatical forms and vocabulary become familiar through repeated exposure.
Instead of learning rules in isolation, students encounter them as part of a continuous text, supported by guided explanation and structured practice.
Over time, this leads to a more direct and stable understanding of Latin.

Salve! Magister Jacobus, my sister is wanting to subscribe through Substack to start your beginner’s class. However, the only options for joining are: Monthly at $99/month, Annually at $349/year, and Founding with no dollar amount noted. However, there is no “lifetime” one-time payment option i.e., $350 and you’re done. Has that option been removed? Please advise, Jeron
