The election of the next pope has begun—an event of global significance involving the highest ranks of the Catholic Church, with repercussions felt by every member of the faithful. The Conclave is underway.
At Learn Latin, however, our mission is simpler and more concrete: to teach Latin. So I’ve prepared a special poster featuring the key Latin phrases you’re likely to hear in the coming days.
This is the ceremonial Latin that marks the milestones of the Conclave, from the death of a pope to the iconic Habemus Papam! announced with white smoke.
As always, I’ve aimed to pack as much information as possible into a visually engaging design. Feel free to download, print, and study it.

I have always been sad that it was not possible to learn Latin at school. It is surprising how singing choral music and learning the translation of the first verse of Ave Verum Corpus Natum, as well as the pronunciation of Beati Quorum Via has helped to grasp some basics.
I love learning with these! I do often wonder about the pronunciation though. I have taken Latin before but I have forgotten most of the pronunciation tricks 😅
