Latin For Beginners: Lesson 14

Familia Romana: Capitulum IV, Lectio I

In this lesson, we read and discuss Familia Rōmāna's second reading (Lēctiō I) of the third chapter (Capitulum IV).

Among the topics covered are the following:

  • The four Latin verb classes (coniugātiōnēs): vocā-, tacē-, pōn-, audī-

  • Indicative mood (modus indicātīvus): vocat, tacet, pōnit, audit

  • Imperative mood (modus imperātīvus): vocā! tacē! pōne! audī!

  • Possessive adjectives: meus -a -um | tuus -a -um

  • Possessive adjective suus -a -um (“his/her own”)

  • Posessive pronoun eius (“his/her”)

  • Vocative case (casus vocātīvus): serv-us (nom.) → serv-e (voc.)

  • Cardinal numbers: I-X

In addition, we continue practicing spoken Latin by reviewing everything we learned in the previous lesson(s).
